The Strings & Wood story

Strings & Wood, a non-profit, Denver-based music promotion company & artist agency, was inspired during Art Heffron’s time working with Singer/Songwriter Steven Delopoulos (of Burlap to Cashmere)and upon meeting Highlands Church Pastor, and now close friend, Mark Tidd. Mark, a Singer/Songwriter himself, and Art discovered a shared passion for restoring the relationship between the Arts and the Church, while helping further the careers of talented artists from all walks of life. Through this shared passion, Strings & Wood was birthed and has been helping further the careers of many local and national artists ever since.

About Strings & Wood

The heart of Strings & Wood is to provide an avenue and platform, through the promotion of live music, social justice, and visual art, for people to celebrate their innate ability to live artistically, aesthetically, and creatively. Ultimately, our purpose is to promote expressions of artistry, while being sensitive to the beauty that is all around us and playing our part in adding to it…whether it's through live music, visual art, or creatively giving back to social causes.

Strings & Wood expresses itself by

  • Producing live music, multi-media events that connect local musicians, visual artists, & social justice
  • Connecting musicians with, and providing opportunities for musicians to perform at top local music venues (The Walnut Room, Hi Dive, The Oriental Theater, Highland Cork Coffee & Wine bar, The Gothic Theater, Highlands Arts & Event Center ‘donated to us by Highlands Church’)
  • *Providing marketing and promotional channels for artists (facebook, myspace, twitter, street team, Andy Kennedy Graphic Design, Strings & Wood newsletter and website)
  • *Creating a community environment to expand artist fan base
  • *Providing an environment for fans, and artists alike, to discover their inherent ability to live creatively
  • *Fostering awareness & building connection amongst local faith communities with Denver’s music and arts community
  • *Providing Pastoral care (when asked) to music and arts community
  • *Offering booking assistance to qualified musicians who are unable to afford their own booking agents
  • *Providing quality live music & photography for your event, wedding, fundraiser, or cause

At our shows

Strings & Wood believes in not making a profit off of the artists we promote. At our concerts where a cover is charged, musicians take 90% of the total ticket sales and 100% of merchandise sales. If a musician decides to ask for suggested donations instead of having a cover charge, he or she takes 100% of all donations collected for that night. Sadly, this belief is not commonly practiced in today’s live music industry.

The musicians we are granted the opportunity of working with perform on both a local and national scale. It has been a privilege to see several artists get their start through Strings & Wood and then go on to have national and international success. We’ve also had the honor of hosting several musicians who normally play at venues twice as large as the ones provided by Strings & Wood, but these musicians generously offer their gifts because of their belief in the Strings & Wood vision.

Strings & Wood also desires for visual artists to be able to make a sustainable living, if their craft warrants it. Thus, wall space is provided, free of charge, in the Highlands Arts & Event Center for local artists to feature their work. In addition, artists receive 100% of the commission from their visual art sales. The only thing asked in return from these visual artists is help in promoting their month’s corresponding concert.. The featured artwork is rotated every one to two months.

STRINGS & WOOD REVIEWS:

from a few artists and causes we’ve supported

"Presenting monthly shows by local favorites, Strings & Wood is truly ‘oneof those’ event production teams that keeps the arts alive. A labor of love, these guys work hard so that local music and art can be seen and heard. Please support them!

Singer-songwriter, Gabrielle Louise - www.gabriellelouise.com

"I was so honored to be sponsored by a Strings & Wood Presents because it came, not only with an enthusiastic one-night event, but as a dedicated and detail-oriented process building up to that event. I felt loved and supported in a personalized way, not the object of a large donor's charity! The money that was raised is being used to support my work as a teacher and photojournalist in Haiti. I'm so thankful for their generosity."

Teaching Photojournalist, Hillary Prag -www.hillaryprag.com

"Not only did Strings & Wood give me a chance to play one of Denver's top music clubs, but it gave me exposure to a supportive new audience in the music scene that I would have never encountered.

Singer-songwriter, Rob Drabkin -www.robdrabkin.com

“Art and Karyn, through Strings & Wood, are actively and passionately rekindling the flame between the arts and the church. It is beautiful to see. Their commitment and excitement to serve and love local ministries like Dry Bones, is inspiring and a great encouragement. Most recently, Dan Craig and Jessica Sonner, with Stings & Wood, donated the proceeds from their show to Dry Bones. The money that was raised is enabling us to continue ministering in love among the homeless youth of Denver. Thanks Strings & Wood – it is an honor and a joy to partner with you.

Dry Bones Homeless Youth Worker, Zach Smith – www.drybonesdenver.org

"What a pleasure to work with genuine, kind people in an industry that can often times be so fake and cutting.

Singer-songwriter, Aaron Espe -www.aaronespe.com

"Both shows I have teamed up with Strings & Wood to put on a show have been wonderful experiences. It's very cool to see people catch the vision of supporting the local music scene here in Denver. It was an honor to be included in what they are doing to help connect the church with the local art scene."
