Do the days before your period turn your life upside down? Have cramps, bloating, mood swings, and conflict become an unfortunate premenstrual norm? Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) is a condition that affects a woman’s emotions, physical health, and behavior during certain days of the menstrual cycle. Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) causes emotional and physical symptoms, like PMS, but women with PMDD find their symptoms debilitating, often interfering with their daily lives, including work, school, social life and relationships. Jenni Kay Long, RYT, LCSW, ADS, is a holistic psychotherapist who integrates relational counseling with auricular acupuncture, trauma-sensitive yoga, and mindfulness. As a PMDD survivor, she is passionate about women’s reproductive wellness and specializes in working with issues such as PMS/PMDD, perinatal and postpartum struggles, anxiety and panic disorders, and complex trauma. She is a clinical suicidologist with experience working on a statewide suicide hotline as well as providing intensive training and supervision to mental health professionals in the crisis field. She is a nationally recognized speaker and the author of “Trimesters 3 & 4: A reflective journal for new moms.”
