Spears Driskell
Spears was born and raised in Selma, Alabama. In Selma, Spears grow up very active in a traditional Presbyterian Church. In fact, Spears choose to attend a Presbyterian affiliated college in Maryville, Tennessee to get his bachelors degree in psychology. Maryville College was a small liberal arts college nestled in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Spears has always loved the outdoors but really learned to appreciate the outdoors while in Maryville having access to The Smokies for backpacking, rafting, hiking, and camping. Life brought Spears to Denver around 1995. He has made Denver home ever since, although sometimes his heart is in the South.
Spears met his amazing wife Rebecca, a Denver native, while walking his dog "Sunshine" one day about eleven years ago. He fell madly in love and the rest is history. A few years ago Spears completed his masters degree in counseling psychology and has done social work and counseling most of his 15 year professional career. Spears searched Denver over to find a church that lined up with his own beliefs and convections about faith. It was a long, confusing, and frustrating search. Highlands is the first church that he has ever been apart of that he believes is truly living out love for ALL people in a way that would make God smile. That’s something that he felt he could no longer just enjoy for himself on Sundays, something he wanted to get behind and support with his energy and time. He looks forward to supporting Highlands Church in whatever ways God leads him.
