Why DEEPEN if I’m Shallow?

We’ve been talking a lot about wanting at least half of all the folks who call Highlands their church home to be involved with one of the DEEPEN groups that will start in Feb. Naturally, this freaks some folks out wondering what it is and whether they will fit. The three most common questions people ask but think they are the only one asking are: 1. “Would DEEPEN be right for me if at my core I’m a shallow person? 2. “Will I have to tell a dinner group stuff I haven’t told my therapist yet?”  And the most frequently asked question, 3.“What if I’m the only left-handed, bed-wetting belly dancer?” Surpise – you’re not alone!

DEEPEN groups are opportunities to meet with others from Highlands on a weekly basis for 8-10 weeks, often over a shared meal, in our common desire to get to know God and one another a bit better. DEEPEN groups can help us not feel quite so anonymous on a Sunday morning surrounded by others we may not know.

Scott Wolf is eager to help us all find a good fit. He’s prepared the available groups for everyone to check out on our website, so they can see what might fit for them. 115 people are signed up so far but there’s room for more. We also could still use more facilitators if you’d like to host one at your place (or share hosting with others in your group) check out the Deepen Section of our webpage, BUT, if you are interested and are having a hard time navigating or finding a good fit, please write Scott at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. So c’mon left handed bed-wetting belly dancers, let’s get to know each other better!

“All manner of people who were not acceptable by the religious standards of the first century found the wide embrace of God in Jesus Christ. Since God doesn’t pick and choose who will be invited into full participation of the church and faith community, neither should we. If it can include me, I don’t see how it could exclude anyone.”
